RopeWorks
‘RopeWorks’ is a new collection of work by Milla Novo, in collaboration with
her creative partner ‘NovoArt’. The idea came about as a way to reduce
waste in the art studio and create unique pieces of art.
Milla Novo creates large rope wallhangings for high-end interiors and
after completing every wallhanging there is always some unused material.
‘RopeWorks’ makes use of these cut-offs and encourages the creative process
to get the best out of what is available. Different colours, thicknesses and
textures of ropes are brought together on wooden board creating large
abstract artworks.
An additional benefit of having a ‘RopeWorks’ on your wall is that it helps to
improve the acoustics of the room and creates a more pleasant atmosphere.

Milla Novo
Milla Novo is an artist based in the Netherlands. She creates exclusive wallhangings for high-end interiors. These unique pieces of art are all designed and hand made by Milla Novo in her studio near Amsterdam and are created specifically for the clients’ needs. Although Milla Novo is currently based in Europe, she has a deep connection with South America and this is where she takes her inspiration from. Her roots lie with the indigenous inhabitants of south-central Chile, The ‘Mapuche’ people. Her mother who still resides in Chile continues to play an active role in the Mapuche community and practices traditional Mapuche weaving techniques. She has helped introduce Milla Novo to the patterns and symbols that have been used for centuries, and in turn these symbols and their meanings both fascinate and inspire Milla Novo to create her own works of art. She integrates these symbols into many of her large wall-hangings which allows her to share a small part of Mapuche heritage with anyone who sees her work. To many, the term ‘macramé’ evokes bohemian thoughts of the 1970’s, but Milla Novo aims to blow the dust of this image and bring the technique into the 21st Century with a bang. Milla Novo likes to work on a large scale to create artworks that not only catch the eye but have practical purposes such as altering the acoustics in a room or providing a feeling of warmth. She has also invested a lot of time and effort into developing a unique collection of metallic ropes that include gold, bronze and black to name a few. Working big and with these non-traditional materials sets her apart from the crowd and provides the perfect stage to incorporate the Mapuche inspired patterns. Quite simply, Milla Novo is providing sophisticated interiors with just what they had been waiting for. Designer's products RopeWorks Milla Novo Rope Milla Novo
